Unable to install Mastercam software on a system running Windows Server operating systems.

Problem

Some users report software like the Activation Wizard Setup do not install or get stuck installing on servers which are running a server-specific OS like Windows Server 2019.

Cause

Windows Server Operating Systems have an extra layer of protection which will prevent applications from installing if it detects a Remote Desktop Session.

Solution

Open the Group Policy and enable Remote Desktop Session compatibility.
  1. Open the Windows Start button and search for gpedit.msc.
  2. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Application Compatibility.
  3. In the right pane, choose Turn off Windows Installer RDS Compatibility.
  4. Choose Edit from the drop-down menu.
  5. Click the Enable radio button.
  6. Click OK.
