Problem
Mastercam is throwing weird errors, is crashing randomly, or not behaving as expected.
Cause
During operation, Mastercam is creating, referencing, and deleting temporary files. The software will use the My Mastercam folder to store these files because it is located in a spot where your windows user should have sufficient read/write permissions. If you've moved the location of your My Mastercam folder to a network drive, or are using a syncing cloud service like Microsoft OneDrive to manage your My Documents folder, then Mastercam may have problems referencing and writing to the My Mastercam folder.
Note* the default My Mastercam folder location is C:\Users\<windows user>\Documents\My Mastercam 20XX\Mastercam\
You can verify the location of your My Mastercam folder within the Mastercam Configuration.
Solution
Have Mastercam rebuild the My Mastercam folder. This will force Mastercam to start up with clean files.
- Close Mastercam
- Browse to your My Mastercam folder (default location is "C:\Users\<windows user>\Documents\My Mastercam 20XX"
- Rename the My Mastercam 20XX fodler to "My Mastercam 20XX_Old"
- Relaunch Mastercam. The errors should have been corrected.
If Mastercam relaunches fine, the next step is to copy your config, workspace, and keybinding files back into the new My Mastercam folder.
- Close Mastercam
- Browse to the old My Mastercam folder to \My Mastercam Old\Mastercam\Config\
- Copy your mcamx.config, Mastercam.Workspace, and mastercam.kmp (if it exists) files.
- Paste those three files into the new \My Mastercam 20XX\Mastercam\Config\ folder
- Relaunch Mastercam. Your config and colors will be restored.
