Geometry disappearing / moving to a negative level

Geometry disappearing / moving to a negative level

Problem

In Mastercam 2024 Update 3, we unfortunately introduced an undesired issue that can cause geometry to be moved to a negative level. This issue appears to be related to the “Rechain all” function.

Cause

We have demined that the most common way this issue is arising is using the Rechain All function, when the original geometry is not visible (level turned off). Having the level where the original chain was being turned on while rechaining seems to avoid this issue.

Solution

We will be releasing an update or a patch soon to address this issue moving forward. Having the level where the original chain was being turned on while rechaining seems to avoid this issue. If you are unable to use this and or are still having this issue, using Mastercam 2024 update 2 will prevent this from happening until a new update is released.

How to recover geometry in files that have been impacted by this issue.

Below is a summary of the steps, watching the video may give you additional clarity on the process.

  1. Open the file that has geometry that has disappeared.
  2. Turn on all levels.
  3. Click Hide / Unhide from the Home tab.
  4. In the Quick Masks area of the screen click on select all entities by level. (Note there are negative levels displayed).
  5. Select the check box next to one of the negative levels and remember what the number was.
  6. Green check out of the Select all dialog (note entities are highlighted in the graphics area).
  7. Right click in the graphics area and chose the change level icon.
  8. Ensure the Change levels dialog is set to Move, make sure the “Use Active Level” check box is cleared and use the number you took note of in step 5 and put it in the Number field (without the negative).
  9. Green Check
  10. Repeat steps 4-9 for each of the negative levels shown in the Quick Masks Levels dialog.
